What is a good hand gun for concealed carrying?

I used to carry a Glock 23 but it was to big and very heavy, now I am carrying a Kahr CW 40 but have had complications with it. I am looking for something durable, approx. $450-$500, and am able to personalize (sights, grips, etc.) ! Please give specific make and models.
