Why do the British moan so much?
Look, I'm British myself, so no-one can accuse me of being racist or making uninformed generalisations, but really, I'm sick to death of my countrymen and women, and I think that the Australians are right to call us a nation of whinging poms. I hate to be Pollyanna-ish, but we have opportunities, freedoms, facilities and rights that our great-grandparents could only have dreamed of. Yes, the weather's rubbish, and we've had a spot of economic hardship recently (after over 15 years of relative prosperity), but come on, people. It doesn't actually get much better - we have a great diet, an occasionally rickety but still-free healthcare service, and pretty good employment rights. Surely if we want a better life, we can accept what we can't change for the time being (the next election will probably be no more than two years away), and get on with the business of making our lives better where we can - rather than complaining about rudeness, for example, surely we could just get on with the business of not being rude ourselves. I await the suggestions of people from within and without my country.
